TALENTED NEGRO FAMILY.
MOTHER BORN IN SLAVERY. That the United States offers opportunity for advancement to willing workers without regard to rank or race is well illustrated by a story published recently, says the New York correspondent of the Times. . Mrs. C. A. Hubert, an illiterate negress born in slavery, married to an illiterate husband, has just died at Atlanta, Georgia, leaving seven sons and five daughters, all educated as the result of their parents' self-denial and now holding a respected social standing. The eldest son is president of Jackson College, Missouri, the second director of agriculture at Tuskegee Institute.-Alabama, the third principal of the Sayannah % Negro High School. Three others are* doing professional work, and the youngest is still at The daughters are all married to professional or commercial men.
