ASSESSMENT IN DISPUTE. UPHELD BY HOUSE OF LORDS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 23. Tho House of Lords, has dismissed an appeal of interest to Australians and New Zealanders employed in Britain. Mr. Harry Hartland, an employee of the New Zealand Shipping Company, appealed against his income tax assessment. Counsel explained that Mr. Hartland's salary was £SOO a year, upon which the company paid £BO income tax. The authorities contended that this £BO constituted an addition to the salary, and assessed Mr. Hartland on a basis of £SBO.
