"The car j a Lexington, was parked in i Beresford Street by the owner/ Mr. I Leslie Freeman, -while he had tea. Later |i£ was seen starting oS dowa the iodine. Ili gathered speed, and when well down ; the grade it swerved and mounted the. jj kerb. Without slowing up it crossed the ! pavement and dashed through the fence jof a dwelling at No. 23. occupied bv i Mrs. W. Harvey. The vehicle crashed | agaiasi the verandah and cue miming- | board cai a deep furrow in the ground. ; A Eying splinter from the fenca broke i a pane of glass in an adjoining house. Immediately the car was brought to j rest by the verandah, Sames began to issue from the bonnet. A wati extricated himself from the wreckage and sway. When, he returned he was | detained. | The fire was speedily smothered. The - sole occupant of the car asserted that he | had not touched the controls and was ! merely sitting in the seat waiting for the \ owner, whom he knew.
