TAKAPUNA DRAINAGE.

EASTERN PART SOON READY.

A TEMPORARY OUTFALL. Takapuna will begin to experience the benefits of its new sewerage system .vithin three or four weeks. The central section of the reticulation, which applies to the eastern part of the borough, extending from Black Rock to Clifton Road, is; approaching completion. The outfall for this portion is to bo at Black Rock, and is intended eventually to take the form of a storage tunnel, which shall for some distance run parallel with Milford Beach at its eastern end, and be constructed in concrete in j such a form as to give a roadway along the waterfront. This tunnel is not yet available, but it will be provided for in Ithe works scheme of the coming municipal year, when the reticulation of the Milford district is being carried out.

If, however, permission could be gained for the employment of a temporary outlet at Black Rock, some use could be obtained at once from the reticulation already laid down. Accordingly, negotiations with that object in view have lately been in progress with the Marine Department. The Mayor of lakapuna, Mr. J. D. Morison, has now received advice from Mr. A. Harris, M.P., who is in the South, that the necessary authority has been granted, and public notification would appear in this New Zealand Gazette. ■ , , Steps will immediately be set on loot bv the borough engineer's department to take advantage of the concession made bv the Government, by extending tho proposed temporary outfall into Rangitoto Channel, and also connecting up with the sewerage system a number of business places as to which it is considered that an early connection with the sewers is especially desirable. With regard to private residences, however, it is unlikely that any connections with the system will be made until the Milford storage tunnel is formed and available for use.
