HUTS IN THE DOMAIN.

THE TUBERCULAR SOLDIERS. PROTEST AGAINST REMOVAL". i The suggestion that tho huts in the Domain occupied by tubercular soldiers should be removed to the grounds of the Auckland Infirmary at Epsom was discussed by a deputation from the Southern Gross League which waited on the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, yesterday. The removal of these huts has not been asked for by the City Council although there is no doubt that the council would like to see the area cleared of these structures were it possible to arrange equally satisfactory accommodation for the men elsewhere.

Speaking on behalf the deputation Mrs. E. Nicol said the league had asked to have these shelters placed in the Domain for the comfort of the men who were suffering as a result of their war service. There had never been any complaint about the huts or the men housed there and she considered a change to Epsom would not be in the interests of the men.

The request was supported by two of the patients, Messrs. J. B, Perry and J. H. Mitchell, who said that each of the patients was now provided with a separate cubicle but if sent to Epsom three or more would be placed in one room which was not good from their point of view. The present huts were not occupying any part of Domain that could be used as sports grounds and the men felt alarm at the prospect of being sent out to Epsom.

The Mayor said he could express no opinion as to the effect of any change on. the health of the men but if the old annex had not been used as a hospital the huts would never have been placed in the Domain. Now that the large building had been removed, the huts, hitherto in ,the background, were brought into view, and it had been necessary to carry the pipes serving the huts across on trestles which were unsightly to say the least of it. The Mayor promised to place the matter before the council and while not able to promise anything said the men would be given -every consideration,
