VISIT BY HON. W. P. REEVES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] NELSON. Wednesday. The Hon. W. Pember Reeves yesterday paid a visit to the Cawthron Institute, where he was pleased to meet his old friend Professor Easterfield. " I was responsible for the professor coming to New Zealand," said Mr. Reeves. "At least, when I was Agent-General I was asked to select a scientist for Victoria College, and I advised Professor Easterfield, and he was appointed."

Mr. Reeves said it was a real pleasure to note tho great work already done and in progress at the Cawthron Institute. The Government was carrying on a fine work in the samo direction, but it was good to have a private institution also working.
