international rugby. ROUGH PLAY AT HOME. Renter. LONDON. Jan. 19. "Rugby like a street brawl" is the description of the match played on Saturday between England and Wales, which is said to have been written by an unnamed but well-known international player in the Evening Standard. Tho writer says fists were used as in a street brawl, and feet as if the players themselves were the ball. A prominent member of the Welsh Rugby Union is quoted as having said: "It was disgraceful! It was not Rugby. There was at one time a danger of one of the captains leading his team off, the field. I saw what can only be described as deliberate blows, and the off-side rule was blatantly broken in the scrums by the Welsh halves. I am full of regrets at the conduct of certain individuals and at the barracking of the crowd." It is stated that the English Rugby Union discussed the matter unofficially, and it will not be surprising if the Welsh union- receives a letter on the subject.
