WHANGAREI RACE TRACK.
QUESTION OF THE LEASE. CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANG ARE I, Tuesday. The Whangarei Racing Club three years ago secured a lease from tho Whangarei Borough Council of the race track at Kensington Park for £ls a' year, with right oi renewal, conditional upon six months' notice to act upon that provision. That right was not exercised within the stipulated period, but meanwhile the Racing Club had sub-let to the Northland Trotting Club at £Bl a year for a one-day meeting. When tho Borough Council signified that it would not renew the lease at the old rate to the Racing Club, tho trotting enthusiasts wero in a dilemma, as they had arranged for their next meeting to take place in March. The result was that a deputation waited upon the Whangarei Borough Council last evening, asking to havo the position elucidated a their rights conserved in what is a public park. They also included the rights of any other similar organisation which might be formed, aru which would require the use of the park. Tho outcome was that the council invites the Trotting Club to send delegates to a conference to_ v be held between the council and the Racing Club, at which terms o* a possible and probable renewal of the lease will be determined. At the'same time the delegates from the Trotting Club signified that they 'considered the interests 0,. tho public could bo best conserved by granting a new lease of tho tracks to tho Racing Club.
