MYSTERIOUS ABSENCE.
SEARCH FOR ACCOUNTANT.
LETTERS TO, WIFE AND FIRM. Mystery surrounds • the* disappearance from his home on January 11 of Mr. Edgar David Hamilton McEwen, aged 28, who is employed as an accountant by a city firm.
Mr. McEwen resided with his wife and child in Wellington Street. He left home as usual for. the office on Monday, January 11, and after going there said he had some business to transact, and walked out again. Since then he has not been seen.
That evening Mrs. McEwen received the following telegram ; " Must go to Pukekohe to-night. Sorry, cannot get home. — Jack." Next morning a note was received which read: "I am gradually going mad, so I have decided- to die,. When you get this I 'will be no more. , Love to you and Ken.—Jack." Although he left home with but little money, three five»>pound notes were -enclosed. ,
A further note was received by his firm, which,stated: " I am going mad, so I have decided to get out of the; way. When you get this I will be among the dead men."
McEwen is about sft, 4in. in height and is of slight build. He has dark brown hair, sallow complexion, grey-blue eyes, and one of his front teeth is noticeably dark-coloured. When last seen he was wearing a grey suit, without the waistcoat, and a signet ring bearing the initials " C.8." .
