GUIDANCE OF TRAFFIC.

STREET INTERSECTIONS. The traffic department of the Wellington City Council is considering the advisability of providing "poached eggs at street intersections for the guidance of wheeled traffic. The "poached egg" is socalled because tho raised centre of the metal device is invariably painted yellow. One of the devices submitted to the council was a circular cage-like construction of cast iron, which was a protection to a dome of yellow glass, below which it was proposed to place electric lights, so that the "egg" would be visible after dark. As the protection was about fiin. above the level of the ground it was deemed to be too high—high enough to be an obstruction. Another device is to be inspected before a decision is reached.
