YOUTH AND THE CHURCH.
DEFENCE BY A' BISHOP.
"STUPID, STICKY CONSERVATISM"
[from our own. correspondent.] LONDON, Dec. J.
" Some people are always groaning and moaning about the degenerate character of tho young people of the present day because they aro fond of dancing, so thoughtless, so giddy, and so wholly given over to amusement," said th§ Bishop of Lichfield, Dr. J. A. Kenipthorne, at the Lichfield Diocesan Conference. "As if we had not been just the same sort of people at their age. In my opinion the great obstacle and stumbling block to our young people is stickiness and adherence to most unnecessary and undesirable ancient customs. I do not wonder that some of our young people do not care to go to church when everything is being swayed by the stupid, sticky conservatism of some of their seniors. It is some of the older people who ought to make sacrifices instead of the young people, who are constantly being asked to do it. We must show more initiative and more of the spirit of inventiveness ,if we are to' attract the young people to the church."
