ASCENT OP EGMONT.

VISITORS ON THE SUMMIT. Donning woollens and hobnail boots and armed with alpenstocks, several climbers made attempts to climb to the summit of Mount Egmont during the week-end. Heavy rain and bitter winds robbed most of the attempts of success. On Sunday, however, Miss Ormiston ffiisborne), Miss King (Papatoetoe), Mr. H. M. Rogerson (Auckland), Mr. Web-j ster (Auckland), and Mr. Lacey (Palnverston North), had a most interesting trip to the summit. Steps had to be cut in the ice to reach the summit, but the climbers were rewarded with magnificent views over land and sea. The party left, the Noith Egmont Hostolry at 6 a.m. and returned at 3 p.m., well satisfied with their day's exertions.
