NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE. BUTTER AND CHEESE PRICES. Tho Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated December 31, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Butter. —Fair business has been done. Official quotations are not available. Present market prices are:— New Zealand.—Finest: December 31, 170s to 174s per cwt.; December 24, 162s to 1665. Australian.—December 31, 164s to 166s per cwt.; December 24, 156s to 158. Argentine.—December 31. 140s to 150s per cwt.; December 24, 140s to 1465. Danish.—December 31, 176s to 178s per cwt.; December 24, 172s to 174. Cheese. —The market is quiet. Present j market prices for English Finest Farmers' is unchanged. Canadian. —Coloured and white, finest: December 31, 104s to 106s per cwt.; December 24, 106s to 108s. New Zealand.—Coloured and white: December 31, 98s; December 24, 100s to 102s. Shipments arrived this week by the Dorset and Corinthic. Heinp.—The Manila market is firmer and the demand is good. "J " grade January March shipment sold up to £46 per ton and is now quoted to sellers at £45 10s per ton. Sisal, firm. Number one Tanganyika December February quoted at £45 10s per ton. Spot sold at £46 per ton. New Zealand, market firmer. Fair afloat sold at £37 10s per ton; £4O 5s bid for high fair; £3l 10s common for December-February shipments. Wool.—The Bradford market was quiet over the holidays. The outlook for the Now Year is considered more encouraging. Present quotations are.—Tops: 64's (warp), 4s 2d; 64's (average), 4s; 56's, 2s lOd: 50's, 2s 3d: 40's (prepared), Is lOd. Tallow.—There was no auction this week. The market is d\ill. Mutton: Present quotations for fine and fair are 43s 6d to 48s per cwt. Beef: Fine, 45s to 46s per cwt; fair to good, 41s 6d to 43s 6d; mixed. 41s to 435. FOREIGN EXCHANGES. Australian and N.Z. Wheat cargoes are firm and there aro fair sales at higher prices owing td tho small shipments, and a good milling inquiry. Sales are reported at 62s 6d to 635. Parcels are firm at an advance of from 3d to 6d. Sales aro reported at from 62s 3d to 62s 9d. WOOL. The Bradford wool market is inactive, colonial reports being awaited. Quota- [ tions are unchanged. 1 MELBOURNE WOOL SALES. INCREASE ON RECENT PRICES. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Jan. 5. At the wool sales there was good general competition, compared with closing rates last year. Super Merinos were 5 per cent, higher, with average and top making sorts in the sellers' favour. Comebacks and erossbreds showed from par to 5 per cent, increase for the best; others par to 5 per cent, .increase. CHICAGO WHEAT MARKET. A. and N.Z. CHICAGO, Jan. 4. Wheat.—May, new, 1 dollar 82 7-8 cents; old, 1 dollar 80 7-8 cents; July, 1 dollar 56 5-8 cents. TARANAKI OILFIELDS. REPORT ON THE BORINGS. [by teleghath.—phess association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, Tuesday. Taranaki Oil Fields report.—Tarata bore: Drilled to 4,140 iu shale. Moturoa bore: Six inch casing drawn. The hole is apparently slightly out of lino owing to a boulder near the bottom. We are now straightening it preparatory to rerunning tho casing. PUKEKOHE PRODUCE. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday. Business at Pukekohe in potatoes was resumed to-day after the holidays. Good supplies came to hand and there was also a rush of orders, the price remaining at 10s per cwt., f.o.r. Pukekohe, but there was a feeling that with fairly plentiful supplies now ready the price would ease to-morrow. . Green onions are coming to hand and f are quoted at £ll per ton, f.o.r. PukeI kohe. The dry weather caught the onion ! crop just at bulbing time, with the result that they have not made nearly the weight expected. This will doubtless considerably reduce the anticipated surplus for export.
