Mather, of the Australian Salvation Army field service, arrived from Sydney by the Maunganui yesterday to spend a holiday with relations at Frankton. Major Mather, who has been 43 years with the Salvation Army, was once stationed in Auckland, Colonel Richard Sparrow, C.M.G., D.5.0., of Essex,* arrived yesterday by the Maunganui from Sydney. He is accoml panied by Mrs. Sparrow, and will later proceed to Russell, where lie intends..to do some deep-sea fishing. Colonel Spar-row-j who has iid# retired'from'* the saw service in South Africa, India and" the Great War. Major-General Edward Henry Willis, C.8., C.M.G., who has been attached, to the Royal Artillery in India since the Great War, arrived yesterday by ■ the Maunganui from Sydney. His term--.of service in India has come to an end and he will spend two months in New.Zealand on his way back to England. Maj6rGeneral Willis is a keen fisherman and he intends to spend most of his time hero in trout-fishing. During the war,he served with the Seventeenth Corps in France and was mentioned in despatches five times. The Governor-General, "Sir Charles Fergusson, was his chief. From 1896 to 1898, Major-General Willis was instructor in artillery in Queensland. He is accompanied by Mrs. Willis, and is-at tho Grand Hotel. .
