BURGLARS IN A CLUB.
RAID UPON SUPPLIES. LIQUOR AND CIGARETTES. A jemmy was used by burglars who made a raid on tho premises of the Richmond 1 "orking Men's Club, Stanmore Road, Christchurch, last week. They broke in a brass panel of a rear door with the tool, and turned the key in the lock. Tho articles taken comprised cash, liquor, and cigarettes, to the total value of £2O. About £4 in silver and notes of small denomination, 15 bottles of whisky, three of gin, six of stent, and fivo of port wine, and a quantity of tobacco and cigarettes, wero found to be missing. Evidences of the raid met the oyes of Mr. F. Hughes, the custodian, when ho entered the building. Glasses wero on tho counter, and further examination revealed that the club's stock had been sampled. Bottles of spirits had been opened, and many packets of cigarettes taken. The cash stolen was extracted from the till. Mr. Hughes, who lives opposite the club-room, heard a noise shortly after midnight, but did not attach any importance to it.
