THE YEAR'S RAINFALL.
BELOW THE AVERAGE. VERY DRY DECEMBER. PREVIOUS RECORDS COMPARED. The fine weather during Christmas was the continuation of very dry conditions experienced at Auckland during December, the total rainfall being only .80in., or 2.02 in. below the average. It was the driest month of the year, according to records taken at the Albert Park Observatory by Captain D. McLcay, the Government observer. The rainfall for the 12 months, 38.82 in., was nearly sin. below the yearly average of 43.79 in. Rain fell on 196 days, but only in May, June, July and September did the fall exceed the average for the month. On the wettest days of those months, 1.45 in. fell on May 12; 1.86 in. on June 24; 1.15 in. on jVily 24; and .87in. on September 12. The highest yearly rainfall at Auckland was in 1917. The lowest yearly total was that of 28.14 in., in 1835. The rainfall in 1924 was very heavy, tht< total for the 12 months being 66.66 in., or 22.87 in. more than the yearly average.
