PACIFIC MAIL SERVICES.

Sir, —In Wednesday's Herald there was a reply by Mr. Markrnan, secretary to the Post Office, to Dr. Thacker'scriticism of the Pacific Mail services. I wish to point out that the Vancouver service is the slower of the two except when the Aorangi is on the run. The trip across the Pacific could be cut down to 16 days from Auckland of Wellington, as has been done on several occasions. The late Prime Minister said the mails could be landed in London in 26 days. As we pay £40,000 per year I consider we are entitled to a better service. The Niagara could do the trip in less time if she was run all out, but she is not, hence the 19-day trip. If the Postmaster-General would insist on a faster service to America I am sure it would be done, Edgar Knight.
