OBITUARY.
MR. FRANK MUNSEY, A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. Dec. 22. M.r. Frank Munsey, the newspaper publisher, died to-day from peritonitis, following an. operation for appendicitis. The late Mr, Munsey had a most rcmarkable career. Born at Mercer, Maine, in 1854, he began life as ati errand boy m a country store, but before many years be was manager of the Western Union Telegraph office in Augusta, Maine. In 1882 he went to Now York, where he commenced his career as a publisher. His first enterprise was the Golden Argosy, a juvenile weekly, which subsequently became the Argosy-AUstory Weekly, a publication for adults. Seven years after arriving in Now York he launched Munsey's Weeklv, whicli he converted into Munsey's Magazine in 1891. His activities steadily extended, and he became proprietor of a number of important New York daily and weekly newspapers and periodical publications. He had an able pen and wrote a number of novels, several of which achieved a wide circulation. Mr. Munsey was not married.
