COURT MAKES HEW AWARD. - NO INCREASE IN RATES OF PAY. , On the question of wages, the Court : ; states it was unable to grant the applies- ) . general increase in the rates, a;- , i the increases granted by the com- j ; pauies in the past had, more j I the wages of seamen and officers that : existed in 1914. The Court had, however, j incorporated some provisions oi the Wei- • i iingtoß Coastal Shipping Companies* j ; Award, which it considered were fairly I to be regarded as being of general applica- s i tion. The rate of victualling allowance, when | ; such was due to officers, was one of the j ; points at issue in Court. ihe award i fixes it at 12s Sd a day, or £3 5k j i a wees for victualling and accommodation, : I 5s 6d a day for accommodation only, and : ;8s 6d for victualling only. With regard i j to holidays, every master, after 12 months' j 1 continuous service, is to have 21 days' j j continuous leave, and an officer lg days; j ; and every master or officer is to be en- j I titled to one day's extra holiday leave for ! | each excursion ran on Sundays and public j i holidays. j If weekly time oS in the home port is j I not given, equivalent to four hours a j ! week, it is to be paid for on the basis j ; of half s day's sea-pay at overtime rates, I I or may be allowed to accumulate for not ! ; longer" than six months, and then be given » | in whole or part days at the home port, j : Where a ship is not regularly trading to j i the home port, the time off may be given | j at Auckland. Under the heading of Sunday I 1 and holiday sailing, it is provided that j 1 when a vessel leaves Auckland or One- j f hunga before 5 p.m on any Sunday or j : holiday, each master and officer shall re- 1 ! ceive an extra day's sea-pay. | The provision under the head of safety j 1 of ships simply requires an officer to at- j j tend when required any medical inspection 1 i in port, or any boat-drill or fire-drill in I port or at sea, and do any work that is i required of him for the safety of the ship j j when in immediate peril, without payment j i of overtime. | The new award is to remain in force j i until January 1. 1928.
