Lang, announces ' that he will not institute an inquiry into the alleged bribery plot. LOTTERIES AND CHARITY. PRIVATE MEMBER'S BILL. SYDNEY. Dec. 16. In the Legislative Assembly, a private member gave notice to move the introduction of a bill to enable lotteries to be conducted for charitable purposes. UNIVERSITY FINANCES. BAD POSITION DISCLOSED. SYDNEY. Dec. 16. In view of great financial difficulties, the University Senate has decided to impose on students next year a general serj vice fee of 10s per term. With the I present revenue it is impossible to carry j on the work. LOANS FOR SOUTHERN STATE. AMOUNT REQUIRED, £6,000,000. ADELAIDE. Dee. 16. S In the Legislative Assembly, the ! Premier, Mr. J. Gunn, introduced the j loan estimates. They provide for an ex- | penditure of £8,568,216. With £2.568,216 unexpended from previous loans, the net | amount required will be £6,000,000. CIVIL SERVICE AND UNIONS. ! SOUTH AUSTRALIAN QUESTION. ADELAIDE. Dec. 16. A deputation representing the Trades and Labour Council asked the Premier, i Mr. J. Gunn, to compel all civil servants |to become unionists. The Premier I promised to consider the request. FACTORIES AND WORKERS. NEW SOUTH WALES FIGURES. SYDNEY. Dec. 16. An official report shows that during the current year the number of factories in New South Wales materially increased. , The number of employees increased by 1 3155.
