Although no organised appeal has yet been made, the movement has aroused considerable interest and numerous donations have been received. Playing for Maungakaramea against Whangarei on Saturday. Metge, the ex-Auckland university player, followed up a century not out scored last week by making 53 runs out of a total of 100 scored by the side. He afterwards took five wickets, all clean bowled, for 25 runs. Wbangarei made 89. J. Lees 36. Onerahi secured a first-innings win against Y.M.C.A. Onerahi's first innings yielded 150, W. Mason 67, S. Mackenzie 19, Chitty 16. In the second innings they lost six wickets for 69 runs, Chitty 35 not out, R. Fyfe .15. Y.M.C.A. compiled 96, R. Hollows 85, J. Collins 16. C. H. Hewlett captured six wickets for 35 runs. Portland made 47, Newton 15, in their first 'innings against Marsden, Martin taking five wickets for I'2 runs. Marsdetj were all out for 32. Wilson took four wickets for 13 runs and Rogers three for 13. In their second effort, however, Portland failed dismally and were all out for 20. Martin securing six wickets for 11 runs. A cold wind interfered unpleasantly with the enjoyment of summer pastimes on Saturday. In cricket United scored the first win of the season by an innings defeat of High School and Tararn were beaten in the first innings by Karaka. HAWKE CUP CONTEST. EASY WIN FOR NELSON. [BY TELEGRAPH. —FRESS ASSOCIATION.] KELSON, Monday. The Hawke Cup match was continued this morning in perfect weather conditions. Nelson put on 462 before the last wicket fell, the largest score yet made in Hawke Cup contests. The feature of the game was the innings of 113 by A. Biggar, a college boy. who was taking part for the first time in an interprovincial fixture. He was at the wickets 116 minutes and gave a splendid exhibition of clean, crisp cricket. M. Eden carried his score to 87, playing attractively. The fielding of the visitors was good, but the bowling-was well collared, eight men having a turn at the crease. The innings tasted 4} hours. Kemnitz and Searell each made 31. Pearpoint, five fa* 116, had the best bowling average. Marlborough commenced their second innings badly, losing M. Neal, Allardyc® and Robson for 7 runs. They were all disposed of for 50, Nelson winning by an innings and 296 runs.
