DIVORCES IN AMERICA.

INCREASE FOR LAST YEAR. LESS MARRIAGES RECORDED. A. and N.Z. WASHINGTON, Dec. 8. A survey of marriage and divorce in the United States in 1024 has been completed by the Census Board. This shows fewer marriages and an increasing number of divorces than were noted previously. Marriages during 1924 totalled 1,178,206, compared with 1.223,924 irt 1923, a decrease of 45,7.18, or 3.7 per cent. Only 10 States reported an increased number of marriages. Divorces decreased in 18 States, but the increase in the other 30 States more than offset the decrease. Surprise has been caused by figures, which show that New York, the reputed centre of wickedness, had but one divorce per 23 marriages, leading all other sections of the country. Oregon and Nebraska show one divorce for every two or three marriages.
