COLLISION ON RAILWAY.
NEW STEAM PASSENGER CAR. MOTOR AT PRIVATE CROSSING. A YOUNG MAN INJURED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 PALMERSTON NORTH, Tuesday. A collision occurred at Longburn shortly after seven o'clock last evening between the new steam "railway car and a motorcar driven by Mr. R. King, of Palmerston North. The motor-car had passed through the first gate at a private crossing leading from Mr. R. P. Jensen's property, and was about clear of the line when the railway car caught its back wheels and turned it completely round, to finally fall on its side. The driver received a fracture of his right arm just above the wrist, arid several cuts about his head and neck. A passenger in the car had got out to open the gates. The car was extensively damaged, but the railway vehicle escaped with only a dent or two. There are tall trees very close to the railway line. Mr. King, who was 21 yesterday, had no idea of his danger until he was on the track, the railway car moving much more silently than a train.
