Ltd., advise that the Anchor Line steamer Alexander will load at Onehunga on Friday for Nelson and the itsual West Coast, ports. The Richardson Line steamer Awahou, which has been loading wool at East Coast hays for Napier, is to resume in her usual trade. She is due at Auckland on Monday to load for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and - Gisborne.. THE MOTOR SHIPPING POSITION. The latest, shipping returns show that 64 per cent, of the tonnage building abroad, is to be equipped with _ oil engines, while the corresponding figure in the United Kingdom is only 38 per cent. According to the Motor Shixj, taking the world as a whole, there are steamers of 981,788 tons under construction, this figure being largely exceeded by motor vessels, which total 1,065,622 ' ions, excluding ships upon which work has been suspended. Yet three years ago there were ten times as many steamers as motor •"vessels being built. As regards the actual results achieved by modern intemal-combus-tion-engined vessels, Lord InverfoHh made the statement Ir.st month that the motor vessel offered- the best return as a productive shipping investment, this conclusion : being based upon the operation of 12 motor vessels which his company now has in aer- ■ - vice.

In continuation of her voyage from New York the Ellennan-Hall Line steamer City of Corinth will sail to-morrow for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Tasmania. MAKO DELAYED. t After being delayed for 12 hours at .Napier by crew trouble the Mako loft at midnight on Monday for Haparapara and Auckland. She is due to-morrow and will load for East Coast ports. THE HAURAKI. The Union Company's motor-ship Hauraki is to aail to-morrow for Wellington, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney to complete discharge of cargo from Pacific Coast ports. THE REMUERA. The New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Remuera is to sail at ten o'clock this morning for Wellington to complete discharge of her cargo from London. Afterwards she will load for England in the South and will then return to Auckland to complete loading. THE CANADIAN CHALLENGER. Haying completed loading general cargo in New Zealand the Canadian Challenger sailed yesterday afternoon from Auckland for New York, Boston and Halifax. THE WANAKA. After loading sugar at Chelsea the Wanaka moved at mid-day yesterday to Prince's Wharf to continue loading. In consequence of the amount of cargo offering her departure for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, Oamaru and Timaru has been postponed until fivo o'clock this afternoon. THE PORT BOWEN. Heather, Roberton, Ltd., have received advice that the Commonwealth and Doniinion Line steamer Port Bowen. after loading at Dunedin. Bluff, Lytteltom Wellington, Napier and Auckland for New York. Boston and London, will bo despatched finally from Auckland about January 10. TARANSAY DUE TO-NIGHT. Under charter to the New Zealand Shipping Company the steamer Taransay is duo to-night from Sydney (Cape Breton) and Montreal. To-morrow morning she will berth to discharge general cargo. On Eriday she will be docked for cleaning and painting and on Saturday will proceed to Portland to load cement. After being barbound at Greymouth for some days the Kaitangata left at 2.30 on Monday afternoon for Tauranga and Auckland. On completion of discharge at this port she will proceed to Portland to load cement for New Plymouth. THE TREKIEVE. According to advice received by the New Zealand Shipping Company the steamer Trekieve arrived at Newport News on December 2, en route from Montreal to New Zealand. She is bringing cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and Australia, and should reach here about January 7. THE PORT HOBART. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line's motor-ship Port Hobart left Wellington on Monday for Napier and Auckland to complete loading. She is due here about Saturday and will sail for London on Tuesday. The Union Cornpany'3 intercolonial steamer Maunganui arrived yesterday morning after a fine weather trip from Sydney.
