Smith, M.P. for Waimarino, arrived yesterday and is at the Central Hotel. Mr. H. Tollemache and Mr. 11. W. Henderson, of Sydney, are at the Central Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Spencer, of Indiana, United States, are at the Hotel Cargen. Sir Thomas and Lady Mackenzie sailed from Wellington by the Rotorua yesterday morning; for London. Mr. A. D. Carson, Mr. G. M. Mathew and Mr. R. J. H. Cox, of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. Commissioner R. Hoggard, of the Salvation Army, and Sirs. Hoggard, left for Wellington by train last evening. Mr. H. T. Merritt returned to Auckland by the Maunganui yesterday after an eight months' absence abroad. Mr. H. D. Purley, of England, and Mr. W. R. Darwin and Mr. F. F. Morley, of London, are at the Grand Hotel. Dr. E. Boxer, of Hastings, Mr. A. V. Halle, of London, and Mr. W. T. Hook, of Sydney, arrived yesterday, and are at the Hotel. Cargen. Mr. A. C. Millership, of Sydney, Mr. C. D. Ballantyne, Mr. B. N. Marks and Mr. E. Brick, of Melbourne, are at the Grand HoteL Mr. C. H. Chissell, of Whangarei, Mr. W. Vosper, of Cambridge, Mr. G. Sanders, of Adelaide, arrived yesterday and are art the Grand Hotel. Mr. J. S. Hannigan was appointed to the position of assistant-traffic manager by the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday. He will succeed Mr. F. H. Hayden, whose health prevented him from continuing in the position. Dr. T. H. A. Talintine, DirectorGeneral of Health, left Wellington for Auckland by the Main Trunk express yes terday afternoon. After conferring with the Auckland Hospital Board he will return to Wellington on Saturday. Mr. W. S. Wright, lecturer in electrical engineering at Auckland University College, has resigned. The College Council decided last evening to accept the resignation, and to invite applications' in NewZealand and Australia to fill the vacancy. Mr. G. W. Forbes, M.P., Leader of,the National Party, arrived in Wellington yesterday from the South. He is proceeding to Feilding and Stratford to be present at social gatherings in honour of. Messrs. Cobbe and R. Masters, who were the National Party's candidates for those two electorates at the general election. Sir Alexander James Anderson, who was a member of the Legislative Council of Burma in 1923, arrived by the Maunganui yesterday on a visit New Zealand. He is accompanied by Lady Anderson. Sir Alexander was a major in charge of a volunteer artillery battery at Kut, Mesopotamia, daring the war, and was taken prisoner by the Turks on the fall of the citadel.
