GISBORNE HARBOUR WORKS.
STONE FOR THE BREAKWATER LARGE QUARRY DOWN COAST. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN COIUIESrONDENT. ] GISBOENE. Tuesday. The Gisborne Harbour Board has purchased the schooner Zingara for the purpose of transporting stone for the new breakwater. The Zingara, which is of 90 tons register, is a well-known trader to Gisborne, and has been in the Auckland coastal service for many years. The purchase price was £3550. The board is negotiating for the purchase of a second vessel. The intention is to use both in bringing stone from Wiiareongaonga to Gisborne. The board has authorised the expenditure of £12,000 for the purchase of plant, including a 20-ton crane, a travelling crane and a steam navvy for the prosecution of the initial work in connection with the' harbour development scheme. An extensive .quarry is being opened at Whareongaonga, which is on the coast 10 miles south of Gisborne. Abundant doposits of stone suitable for breakwater construction are available there.
