THE THOMSON SHIELD. CARLTON CLUB IN SOUTH. [BY telegiuph.—own correspondent. ] WELLI N G TON. Monday. Five teams from tho Carlton Club arrived to-day for the purpose of playing in the annual Thomson Shield match against, the Wellington Club. This handsome shield which was presented by Mr. J. Thomson, president of the Carlton Club last year now reposes in the Wellington Club's pavilion but irrespective of who wins tomorrow's games on the Wellington green the shield will go to Carl ton with the. northern team. Two games of 21 heads will be played and the aggregate points scored will decide which is the winning side. Carlton won last season.

The visitors will be entertained at luncheon ,;tt the Wellington Club's pavilion and also at a smoke concert to-morrow evening. This afternoon the visitors tried conclusions with tho Thermion Club and thanks to fine weather and a very good green had a most enjoyable game. Thorndon won three games out of the fivo but Carlton won by two points in the aggregate score so that both aides could fairly claim a victory.

Tho visitors were very cordially welcomed to the green by Mr, G. Johnson (president). Mr. J. Thomson, president of the Carlton Club, referred to the pleasure he always had in visiting Wellington and in meeting his many good friends here. One Hikurangi pair, J. Pearson and G. Coutts, were beaten by H. I). Harrison and P. Judd, 24 —10, but Westwell and S. Melt enzio beat W. Stewart and A. R. Crane, 30—10.
