PLAGUE OF GRASSHOPPERS.
GOODS TRAIN IMPEDED, RAILS COMPLETELY COVERED. Millions of grasshoppers have been imposing their presence to such purpose on tho countryside near Bathurst, New South Wales, that crops were obscured, arid a heavily-laden goods train was held up on its way to Bathurst. When the grasshoppers descended upon the paddocks at Brewongle, recently, they left a trail of half-eaten wheat stalks, and in some cases totally destroyed oat crops. A heavy goods train was on its way to Bathurst when a stoppage occurred. A puzzled train staff upon looking ahead was amazed to discover that grasshoppers, were responsible. For several hufirireds: of yards along the track the rails were completely covered, and the engine could not take a slight grade on account of tho greasy state of the rails.
