NO ELEPHANT FOR ZOO.

DECISION IN WELLINGTON. The question of tho purchase of an elephant for the Wellington Zoo was again before the City Council last week. The' matter had been discussed by the council at a previous meeting, when it was decided, in view of the position of the city finances, that the question should be referred back to, the Reserves Committee. "As the money is now available," said Mr. .T. W. Thompson, chairman, of tho Reserves Committee, last week, "can the committee go ahead and purchase tho elephant,?" The Mayor referred the issue to tho council, who decided against the purchase by a largo majority.
