BUTTER IN LONDON.
NO IMPROVEMENT YET. FACTORS IN THE SITUATION. # Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Dec. 5. Optimistic views regarding an improvement in the batter trade have not been realised, and the market has gone from bad to worse. Importers are at a loss to understand why the demand is so slack. They can only attribute the continued indifference of buyers to the probability that they have not yet exhausted the heavy stocks bought at the commencement of the shipping strike, and to their knowledge that heavy shipments are now on the way from Australia and New Zealand. Another factor is that there are still large stocks of butter in cold storage. The quality of these stocks is not good, especially the Argentine butter. The only crumb of comfort is that the position in the United States appears to be strong, and some purchases have been made in London for export to New York.
