DEATH UNDER ANAESTHETIC

AN ABNORMAL CONDITION. ASPHYXIATION BY FOOD TAKEN. [by telegraph.—press association.] DUNEDIN, Friday. An inquest was held to-day into the death of a boy who died while under an anaesthetic. The evidence showed that the boy had been given breakfast as usual so as to allow a period of seven hours to elapse before the operation. When the operation was about completed the boy was asphyxiated by the food taken. The condition was said to be abnormal as four to five hours was the usual time allowed to clear the system of food taken. The coroner returned a verdict in accordance with the medical evidence, and said all precautions had been taken.
