AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

THE DOMINION COUNCIL.

SELECTING LOCAL DELEGATES.

The resignation of Mr. V. Hugo, secretary of tht* New Zealand Athletic Association, is to be l regretted. Mr. Hugo has been secretary of the association for the past four years, and during this period he has valuably assisted amateur sport. For some time the business of the parent body has not been running smoothly, and under the circumstances the resignation is not surprising. It has been stated that the president, Mr. A. T. Davies, who is Auckland's delegate on the council, will also tender his resignation at the annual meeting of tho association in Wellington on November 27.

One of the most important matters to be considered at the forthcoming annual meeting of the Auckland Centre is the election of suitable delegates to the council. In the past local interests have been neglected. The centre is keen to foster athlet'cs, and its guarantee of £IOO toward the visit of American athletes is proof of its sincerity. It is to be hoped that suitable representatives will be chosen.

.Nothing furthei hag been heard about the Wellington proposal to send R. A. Rose, the New Zealand long-disunca champion, to Europe to compete against Nurmi. It is to be hoped that 'wiser counsel has prevailed and that any money raised will be expended in bringing Nurni, or other long-distance runners, to New Zealand.

The Auckland Football Association, in conjunction with the Auckland Amateur Athletic Club, has arranged an attractive athletic carnival to be held at Blandford Park on Saturday afternoon. Entries are large, and include some of Auckland's best runners.

The Domain track is in excellent order, and each evening a considerable number of runners and cyclists may be seen training. Good form is being shown by tho younger athletes, and they should do woll in competition. More support from the secondary schools would be welcomed. Auckland lacks a good sprint champion. Last week George Davidson, the Olympic representative of 1920, was approached with a request that he should again compete, but he declined.
