DINING-TABLE FASHIONS.
Just as everything must match in feminine dress —hat, scarf, handbag, and umbrella handle—so in furnishing there are efforts everywhere to repeat colour and design. One of the latest fads is tho decoration of the dining-table with table centre, plate mats, d oyleys, arid lampshade, all to match. A pretty set seen the other day consisted of a gold net table centre —through which the polished wood could be seen —appliqued each end with huge gold silk roses, lhe plato mats and d'oyleys were also gold silk roses, quite flat, of course, and the gold silk lamp-shade was decorated with the same flowers. Flowers and fruit are much used to trim table centres and runners. Often the rather narrow runner is of delicate blue or mauve or yellow chiffon, perfectly plain except for the curiously heavy-looking adornment at either end of fruit or flowers, and sometimes both, made in silk and velvet to tone and in gold and silver galon. One mauve chiffon runner was trimmed in this way with purple plums. The effect achieved is almost that of real fruit or flowers placed upon the table. Gold net, lined with gold tissue and finished at each end with large shaped flowers, is also very much approved for table centres. Whatever the design chosen, plato mats, d'oyleys and lampshades are made to match and to give pleasure to tho highly cultivated tastes of to-day.
