FALSE DECLARATIONS.
WAR PENSIONS ACT BROKEN. [by telegraph.—press association. J CHTUSTCITURC n. Friday. A vonng married min, Alfred Laurie, was charged before Mr. H. A. Young, S.M., this morning with having made two false declarations under the War Pensions Act. He pleaded guilty to both charges. Chief-Detective Gibson said accused •was drawing a pension of £l3 a month and his wife £8 2s 6d a month. In Jrly and August last, accused worked at a factory in Hornby, but he had signed departmental declarations stating that he ■was unemployed during the period. The ma gist rale said accused was liable to a fine of £IOO or 12 months' imprisonment. However, in consideration of the present circumstances of accused he would be ordered to come up for sentence within 12 months.
