APOLOGY DEMANDED.
MAYOR OF CHRISTCHURCH. MR. W. D. LYSNAR'S MISTAKE, [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The Mayor of Christchureh, the Rev. J. K. Archer, sent the following telegram to Mr. W. D. Lysnar, candidate for Gisborne: "I hereby demand within 24 hours, on the platform and in the press, withdrawal and apology for your false statements concerning myself." It is alleged that Mr. Lysnar quoted Mr. Archer as saying he would rather pray for a weasel than for the King. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] GISRORNE, Tuesday.
Interviewed in regard to the Rev. J. K. Archer's message Mr. Lysnar said an honest mistake had been made. He' was quoting in reply to a question a report that appeared in the press throughout the Dominion in which the names of two Christchureh members had been mentioned, the article referring to different views held by Labour leaders. In quoting from the report he inadvertently confused the names of two clergymen. He had replied to Rev. J. K. Archer as follows: "I regret that, in quoting from the Christchureh report I inadvertently substituted your name for that of the Rev. —. The, mistake was a perfectly honest one, which I am publicly correcting immediately."
