STORY OF A BOTTLE.

INDIAN'S BURIED TREASURE. [from our own correspondent.] SUVA, Oct. 28, An amusing story conies from Buea Bay, on the island of Vanua .Levu. The Indians have a great habit of burying their money and jewellery in the earth During the influenza epidemic it is estimated that 50 per cent, of the hundreds who died of the sickness had all theii wealth buried and practically none of it has ever been found. At Buea Bay an Indian who feared the banks buried his money and a quantity of jewellery in a bottle in a swamp. It was not far from his hut, but it happened to be the planting ground for yams of some local Fijians. While the valuables lay there the natives had planted many yams, unknown to the Indian. When he later heard that the natives had been to the swamp and dug up their crop he was upset. He later found that in digging a yam the precious boltlo had actually been moved but not discovered.
