CONSTERNATION IN EGYPT.
POLITICAL SOCIETIES, DECREE CAUSES UPROAR. GRAVE RESULTS FEARED. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Renter. CAIRO. Oct. 23. Consternation has been created by the issue of a Royal decree, which orders all political organisations in Egypt to make a declaration in regard to their headquarters arid membership within one month.
A prominent politician has declared this to be a most reactionary measure, and one which is likely to have very grave results. It may, ho says, lead to the reappearance of secret societies. There is reason to believe tho Zagblulists, Libei als and Watanists will ignore the decree and defy the Government.
The Opposition organ, Alsiassah, asks whether tho new High Commissioner, Sir George Lloyd, is concerned in making the decree, which is calculated to drive the country to revolution.
