AUSTRALIAN WEATHER.
BUSH FIRES IN VICTORIA. NEW SOUTH WALES RAINS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) SYDNEY. Oct. 30. As a result of the hot spell in Victoria widespread bush fires are raging in the country districts of that State. Following on the hot, dry spell in New South Wales rain has commenced to 'in 11 in many districts in the wheat area.
The Homebush stock saleyards reflect the drought conditions. Sheep are being crowded into the market, .and the full carrying capacity of the railways is taxed, all available trucks being booked for weeks ahead.
This applies particularly to the north and north-western grazing areas.
Many thousands of sheep and cattle are also being moved to better grass in more favoured districts.
Reports from the southern districts are more cheerful, hut wheat has reached a critical stage, and unless rain falls shortly the growers will be in a bad way. In Sydney this evening the weather was still showery. The rain, though widely scattered, has so far been mostly light and insufficient to relieve the
drought, but there are prospects of it continuing.
