THE HAURAKI PLAINS.
A WONDERFUL GRANGE. RESPONSE TO FINE WEATHER, [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN COERESPOHBISNT. ] THAMES, Friday. The astonishing recuperative powers of the land on the Hauraki Plains has never attracted more favourable comment than daring the past few days. A fortnight ago the traveller sax? nothing bat ■what seemed a dreary and uninviting waste of water, soaked paddocks and cattle kneo-deep in mud- Under the influence of less than a week's warm sunshine an almost bewildering transformation has been effected. There is a total absence of water in the paddocks, which" are now all luxuriously pastured. The Horahia Drainage Board has a £30,000 improvement scheme for submission to its ratepayers, and when this is fairly under way, and an amalgamation with te Hauraki Board has been effected, giving efficient service to the whole district by one board, it is felt that drainage problems will gradually disappear.
