OLD GUIDE KATE DEAD.

HEROINE OF THE ERUPTION. ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF AGE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHAKATANE, Saturday Margaret Rangot.ukia, better known as Kate the Guide, died at Whakatane yesterday. Said to be'loo years old, she was born at the mission station, Opotiki, and was at one time a guide at Rotorua. She conducted the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of York when they visited the thermal district. In the Tarawera eruption Kate was instrumental in the rescue of a number of children. She also rescued people from a capsized canoe in one of the lakes.
