THE NON CHURCH GOER.
Sir, —I notice in Friday's Herald that a speaker at the Anglican Synod is reported as saying: "Some people never come to church and they never give a penny, and yet we are at their beck and call. We marry them, bury them, etc." I would remind the speaker that it is possible one may bo a Christian acd yet not attend a church, and it seems that if he has asked the services of a vicar to marry or bury in a Christian manner, he has earned a rebuke from the speaker. It may be that he has done so upon the presumption that the same would be tendered in the spirit revealed to us by the teachings of Christ, but he has presumed overmuch and now perceives his obligation. One is still in doubt, however, as to what financial consideration must be given, over and above the two or three guineas usually paid, to avoid _ being described as one to whom the vicar is "at the beck and call." Wed.
