HAMILTON COMPETITIONS.
THE CONCLUDING CONGERTS,
ADVICE FROM THE JUDGES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Saturday. The Hamilton Musical and Elocutionary Society's annual festival concluded with the holding of two demonstration concerts, both of which were very largely patronised. The best candidates were chosen to contribute and excellent programmes were submitted. The president, Mr. H. C. Ross, addressed the audience last evening and thanked those who had assisted to make the festival a success.
Presentations were made to Mesdames A. English and F. Vickery, in recognition of their services.
Mr. Ross said the competitions had been conducted as economically as possible and he believed they would prove to be a financial success. Generous appreciation of the competitors' efforts and sound advice were given by the judges in addresses to the competitors. They commended the competitions as being conducive to the awakening of; a better spirit of fellowship and in combating many of the present-day evils. The competitions aimed at developing a love of the beautiful in all the arts and in improving the standard of music and elocution.
