FAST MOTOR JOURNEY.

AUCKLAND TO GISBORNE. COMPLETED IN 24 HOURS. [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] GISBORNE. Thursday. A motor journey from Auckland to Gisborne was completed in 24 hours by a Gisborne motorist. Some idea of the arduous nature of the undertaking will be gained when it is stated that on account of tho roads being impassable in one-placo it was necessary to travel an extra 60 miles. The car left Auckland at 7 a.m. yesterday and made a good run as far as Hamilton. From there on the roads were found to bo in a terrible state, and when Tirau was reached it was discovered that tiie road through to Mamaku Bush was impassable. It was therefore decided to make the journey to Rotorua via Atiamuri, but on arrival at the latter place it was found that the road from there direct to Rotorua could not be negotiated. The motorist continued as far as Wairakei, and from there doubled back to Rotorua, adding 6G miles to the normal length of the trip. After being driven all night the car reached Motu at 5 o'clock this morning, after a difficult run from Opotiki, two slips having to be negotiated.
