HOSPITAL LEVIES.
Sir, —I notice in the Herald of the 21inst. that Mr. W. Wallace, chairman of the Hospital Board, is reported as having said: 4 ' It had been stated by the Mayor of Onehunga that the levy had been doubled since 1921." Mr. Wallace has been misinformed. I do not know upon what report Mr. Wallace based his assertion, hut tho true facts are that when the statement of accounts of the Auckland Board came before the Onehunga Borough Council, I pointed out that the statement showed that the total levies on local authorities had increased from £38,647 in 1919-20, to £76,442 i;i the present year, which I remarked was nearly double. The increase in the levy on Onehonga during the same period is from £839 to £1517. J. E. C'OWEii. Mayor o£ Onehunga.
