SWIMMING.

# CENTRE'S ANNUAL MEETING. OFFICERS FOR THE SEASON. The annual meeting of tho Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held last evening, Mr. E. H .Potter presiding. In moving tho adoption of the club's arm rial reports and balance-sheets, Mr. A. J. Fernandez praised tho educational work being carried out by the Ponsonby Club. He said tho encouragement given by the club to the teaching of school children and its allotment of £25 for this purpose, were especially commendable in view of tho appalling number of drowning cases occurring yearly. Mr. L. Brighton said the Ponsonby club had a life-saving cup, which was yet to be competed for. An effort to form lifesaving squads had failed, but it was hoped that this branch of swimming would receive support from the schools. Mr. T. C. Hobbs-Jones said the Devonport Club proposed to devote its funds to the assistance of young swimmers and the Devonport school children. He considered that too little was done by the clubs in this respect. The reports and balance-sheets were adopted, and at the suggestion of Mr. Fernandez the centre placed on record its appreciation of tho Ponsonby Club s educational work. . The centre's report and balance-sheet were adopted. In recognition of his services to the centre and swimming generally, Mr. F. J. Boggs, the retiring secretary, was made .a life member.
