EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
PROPOSALS FOR FUTURE, IMPERIAL USE SUGGESTED. Australian and Cable Association. (Reed. 7.5 p.m.) LONDON. Oct. 14. Mr. J. H. Thomas put before the Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Baldwin, three proposals regarding the Empire Exhibition. The first was that the exhibition might still be maintained for further Imperial development; and the second was that the buildings might be maintained for national purposes. The third proposal was for the realisation of assets. This was accompanied by details of offers received from outside sources for the land and buildings. It is the general opinion of the committee that national or Imperial use of Wembley is preferable to a breaki.ng-up sale. One suggestion advanced is to the effect that the buildings should be utilised as an Imperial war museum. The result of the interview between Mr. Thomas and Mr. Baldwin has not been disclosed. Some Dominion quarters predict that the British Government will undertake to realise on the whole exhibition, to discharge the liability of the guarantors, which is understood to be still in the vicinity of £1,000,000.
