THE COUNTRY PARTY.
Sir, —Mr. Mellsop states that ho did not know what t-ook place at Mr, Montgomerie's meeting, and from statements made in his last letter he evidently knows as much about Mr. McLennan's meeting, because he was not there and is depending on hearsay. Mr. McLennan, was not heckled by anyone, the first interjection was a challenge from myself ttt Mr. Potter when ho made a gross misstatement about the failure of n Danish bank, and attacked agricultural banking. Mr. Potter took up a hostile attitude toward the questioners, attempting to discredit the country Party and the Farmers' Union. Practically all the questions asked related to fanners' finance and agricultural banking, and it is my duty as Auckland provincial president of the Farmers' Union to put . these questions to all candidates for Parliament, that being the policy of Dominion' headquarters and the instruction from the last Dominion conference. The meeting was quite orderly. The chairman, Mr. A. D. Bell, never had occasion to ontervene, and I will refer my readers to him for a fair and impartial account of what took place. As for Mr. Davey's opinions, he does not know me from a bar of soap beyc-nd what he saw and heard that evening. And Mr. Mellsop did me the honour to wait on mo some time ago with a request that I should contest the County Council election, so he evidently holds a higher opinion of me than his letters would lead the public to believe. I have always had the reputation of calling a "spade a spade," and I am £ot ashamed of my record. C. (X Mtjrno.
