A MOTHER'S SUICIDE.

HANGED ON A BEDPOST. INQUEST AT ADDINGTON. [jjy TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION, j CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. After four known unsuccessful attempts at suicide, Selina Hibberd, a married woman, of Taylor Street, Addington, took her own life by tying a necktie round her neck and looping it over a bedpost. This occurred last Saturday evening. After hearing evidence at an inquest to-day, the coroner said there was a slight peculiarity about the husband's and son's evidence. The doctor stated that when he arrived the woman had been dead over an hour. The husband said that when he arrived home at about 5.30 he found her dead. It was getting dusk, so it would be about 20 minutes to six. The son said he came home about 5.15. There was a slight discrepancy in the evidence from the medical evidence. It looked as though the woman had died while the son was there and the father away. Singularly enough, the father said in evidence" that" when he came home his son said Mrs. Hibberd was asleep and not to waken her. According to the son's evidence he said he had not seen her. The boy's conduct was rather peculiar. After going into the. oedroom and seeing his mother on the bed ho went to the pictures. The coroner found that Mrs. Hibberd committed suicide on October 10 by hanging, the cause of death being asphyxia, due to strangulation.
