A MYSTERIOUS ILLNESS. MARKSMEN IN SYDNEY. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Rcc-d. 11.35 p.m.) SYDNEY, Oct- 14. Many of the competitors in the first stage of the King's Prize at the rifle meeting laboured under a disadvantage-to-day. After tea last evening a large number of those -who are caraped at the rifle range were seized with symptoms suggesting ptomaine poisoning. They suffered severely and to-dav they faced the targets sick and weak. The actual cause of the illness is not explained. RURAL WORKERS BILL. MATTER OF ACCOMMODATION* SYDNEY. Oct. 1-1. The State Legislative Assembly read a first time a bill to provide for the accomj inodation of rural workers. Under the measure it is proposed thatrural workers duing the time they are employed shall be provided with proper accommodation in buildings, free of all cost, the sleeping quarters to be divided into apartments, each of which is to accommodate two persons. Separate quarters are also to be provided for cooking or eating. NEW SOUTH WALES EXPORTS. LOWER TARIFF RECOMMENDED, SYDNEY, Oct. li. The Comptroller of Customs estimates that about £500,000 should he saved to local manufacturers and consumers by the redaction in duties which he recommended to the Tariff Board yesterday. These recommendations follow the Government's policy of relieving local i manufacturers of penalties on imported I raw materials. CONCESSIONS TO WHALERS. NO DUTY AT THE PORTS. SYDNEY. Oct. It. In order to encourage the whaling industry on the Australian coasts, the Government iias decided to admit whaling vessels free of duty when they are not of a kind which is being built in Australia.
