BENZINE ON LAUNCHES.

Sir, —Not long since attention was called in the ffTra at.t> to the careless manner in which benzine is carried on launches plying on the upper harbour. I know not which is the controlling body, whether it be the Marine Department, Customs i or Harbour Board, but there will be a tragedy one of these days, if things are allowed to drift along as at present. Oil the 5.15 p.m. trip from town oa Monday the launch carried about 30 people, Mid in the cabin there were 15 tins of benzine, some in cases, others exposed and stowed under seats on which passengers were * seated. Passengers were striking matches and smoking cigarettes. A leak in a tin would cause an explosion that would blow the frail craft to matchwood. Surely it is not necessary for an accident to occur before action is taken in the matter. A Possible Victim.
